I was contacted by Josh from Menulog, who asked if I would be interested in a voucher to purchase some takeaway through Menulog. Menulog is a site where you can order your take-away and food delivery online. I would receive a coupon in return for a review. As you can guess I jumped at the chance.

I loaded up the Menulog home page and search for Shellharbour

Tang's Chinese is listed. Yay! We have eaten there many times over the years.

I click Tang's Chinese and it loads up their menu and ordering page.

I scroll down and select Sizzling Seafood Combination. A window pops up telling me that I am ordering outside of the restaurant's operating hours.

I am then prompted to choose a Date and Time and click continue. I then click Combination Short Soup from the Soup section of the menu.  Always a favourite.  I then click 'Place Your Order'

Next page is where you put in your address and payment options.

After that the order goes through and you wait for it to be delivered. Easy! I can't wait.

Would you like to use MenuLog? Check back soon and I will be giving away a voucher courtesy of Josh from MenuLog. Then you can enjoy ordering Take-Away and Home Delivery online.

One of the many budget meals available from Kings Chinese Food Takeaway at Warilla Grove Shopping Centre is Seafood Combination Chow Mein. Only $5 it includes prawns, seafood extender, fish balls, squid and fish as well as delicious vegetables sauted perfectly with delicate flavours of seseme oil. The noodles are cooked separately and have a slight chilli warmth. The perfect meal for the cold rainy weather we've been having today.

Walking down Little Bourke Street in Melbourne is quite an experience. We were greeted by a hostess from the Post Mao Cafe, aka Chairman Mao's Unique Chinese Cuisine. Specialising in Hunan cuisine, their chef's master chef is 93 years old and used to cook for Chairman Mao Zedong. The waitress showed us the menu, pointing out the Three Cup Duck meal on the menu (simmering in crucible with a cup each of wine, vinegar and chilli oil) - a sign that this was the perfect place for us to dine. We love duck, and chilli duck sounded wonderful.

Who would have known that Chairman Mao had his own unique, delicious recipes and that there was a little restaurant in the middle of Melbourne's Chinatown that was devoted to the man who wrote 'The Red Book' that creates such wonderful meals.

I loved the decor. If you tried hard enough you could imagine yourself transported to China. The sights, smells and sounds were authentic enough. We waited patiently for our meal, enjoying the ambience.

The menu was extensive and I wish we had more time to explore it and the delicacies contained within. Alas, we had but 24 hours in the wonderful city of Melbourne so we settled on two Hunan meals and daydreamed about coming back again soon.

Hunan Three Cup Duck in Claypot $24

The first meal served contained capsicum despite the fact we clearly communicated to our waiter that there should be no capscium in the dish due to a very strong allergy to it. We were left with a bowl of rice whilst they re-made the dish. The wait was worth it. The chilli duck was very flavoursome and definitely something I would try again. It reminded me of a sczechwan dish I had many years ago.

Next we decided to try the chilli dumplings, also delicious. We would definitely be back again, despite the mixup with the ordering.

Aromatic Duck pancake was as delicious as it had been on Valentines Day when it was part of Peking Duck banquet.

The garlic king prawns and tempura king were delicious. I would definitely order them again. BBQ Meat platter was amazing value and would make a good starter for a group whilst they make up their mind on what to order. The pork was done in a char sui style and the duck had a delightfully crispy skin and lots of flavour.

The vegetarian tofu was creamy and silky with satay sauce which was used with other yum cha meals as well. We ended on the delicious scallop and vegetable dim sims which we had ordered last time.

I was in the mood for Yum Cha so we headed down to a favourite restaurant of ours - Oriental Expression on Keira Street, Wollongong. Our first visit was on Valentines Day, for their set banquet menu and second on Chinese New Year, both very memorable experiences. Today would be no different. We were escorted to our table and given the Yum Cha menu. Meals ranged between $3.50 for 3 pieces to $9 for a large serve.

After looking the menu over we settled on
  • Thai Duck Spring Rolls (3 pieces for $3.50)
  • Crab and Spinach Dim Sim (3 pieces for $4.20)
  • Scallop and vegetable Dim Sim (3 pieces for $4.20)
  • Prawn Meat Dumpling (3 pieces for $4.20)
  • Beef Satay Sticks (3 pieces for $5.50)
  • Salted Chili Pork Chop (large serve for $5.50)
  • Egg Custard Bun (3 pieces for $4.20)

All meals were shared three ways, perfect since most of the dishes had three pieces.

Oriental Expression: The best iced tea I have ever tasted and it was only $1!!!

After ordering our yum cha banquet I saw the 'Super Value" Iced Bubble Green tea for $1 extra with any purchased meal and thought 'why not!' I love green tea but until now had not liked iced green tea which is usually sold in a can and contains preservatives. As I watched our waiter put ice, green tea, syrup and bubbled water together I began to get excited. When I tasted it I was in heaven. It has a very fresh taste and reminds me of the flavour of green tea icecream. It was sweet but not sickly, refreshing and very easy to drink. I will definitely order it again.

Our first course was the Thai Duck Spring Rolls which were very tasty. The duck meat flavour was subtle but definitely discernible. A very nice start to the meal.

Next was the Crab and Spinach Dim Sim (or dim sum in the USA).
The flavours of crab and spinach blended well with crab flavour subtle
but unmistakable. All dim sims were served in a bamboo dish with a layer
of leaves.

We were looking forward to the scallop and vegetable dim sims.
You could really taste the scallop within the dim sim casing.
The flavour was amazing and left me wanting more

Followed by a most delicious prawn meat dumpling.

Next was the beef satay sticks . I have to say that I have never experienced anything quite like it. The meat was fried rather than grilled and had a lovely texture to it which was complemented by the tasty satay (peanut sauce).

The Salted Chili Pork Chop course was very tasty. We were just in the middle of saying that the chilli wasn't very hot when I swallowed a chilli seed and had a burst of heat in my mouth very different to t he gentle warmth of the rest of the meal.

Around this time I was very close to being full but there was room for dessert of egg custard bun. Make sure that you remove the paper layer or you will be eating it. It was nice but a little too doughy for my tastes. Stan liked his, and ate Philip's as well!

An amazing meal shared by three very pleased patrons. It was our first yum cha at Oriental Expression but it won't be our last! Our bill came to $47 including three beers, two green teas and the meals. Very reasonable prices and great service with a smile. What more could you ask for?

On Friday March 9th I went back to Chefs Choice. It really is an amazing restaurant and the prices are the most reasonable in Wollongong. Every table receives a big thermos of green tea and most meals include free rice.

Steamed Pippies with XO Sauce - $13.50

Pork Ribs with Hong Kong sauce $8
Crispy pork (on the bone) was very tender. The sauce was very tasty. The Hong Kong sauce was a spicy sweet and sour. It went well with the deep-fried tofu below.

Deep-fried tofu $5
The tofu had a very interesting texture and tasted amazing when dipped in the sauce from the pork ribs. I'd definitely recommend you buy them together. Some of the tofu were creamy whereas others were firmer. The serve was quite large and made a nice entree.

Chicken with Chinese Mushroom hotpot $8.50

One of the best restaurants in Wollongong is Chefs Choice. You cannot beat it for value. There is a large thermos of green tea on every table and unless your meal has noodles you will usually get a big bowl of free rice. There is something to please everyone here. My favuorite meal is the absolutely delicious Pippies in XO Sauce. Unfortunately it wasn't on the menu when I last visited so I settled on a firm favourite - Seafood Laksa hotpot

Seafood laksa

Perusing the menu - everything is such good value!

Laksa Wonton Noodle Soup - $7

My husband loved his meal - Chicken with Chinese mushroom hotpot. We love chinese mushroom and there was a sweetness to the sauce, almost like a chicken and sweet corn flavour. Delicious!
